FUTURE OF ONLINE HEALTHCARE SECTOR SEEMS BRIGHT FOR EXISTING PLAYERS

 India, 16 August, 2018: As per the United Nations Population Fund report, the number of people aged 60+ in India will increase from 100 Mn in 2011 to 300 Mn by 2050. One of the major worries for most senior citizens is deteriorating health which comes with age. This change in the population will fuel the demand for healthcare facilities in India.

The online market for the sale of pharmaceutical drugs in India (“E-pharmacy“) has stimulated considerable attention from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, where they issued a draft policy for regulating the sector, promising better clarity for the online medicine-delivery space.

As per Inc42 DataLabs, in 2017, Indian healthtech startups raised about $346 Mn across 111 deals which show interest of Investors in the sector. Giant E-commerce players are in exploratory talks to acquire, partner or invest in online Pharma industry. The reason being that

the Indian pharma retail market is valued at approximately INR 1000 billion, with E-pharmacy having the potential to capture a 5-15% share in this market as per the Industry data revealed FICCI.
